First off I would like to make a point in mentioning that this should be listened to some sort of decent speakers. You just won't be able to hear everything coming through crummy computer speakers or earbuds. This happens. It's ok. We shall prevail. 

Anyway Trumpet Trumpet Synthesizer works within a heady conceptual realm of contemporary compositions. Something which roughly translates to is "music for those who like to think in the post-noise, post-minimalist, post-new music kinda world." You know one where digital freedom allows for vast histories & futures to unfold before our eyes.

The trio roughly inhabit a interzone or contradictory place within the musical landscape. Performing group leader Weston Minissali's compositions on one hand allude towards more traditional forms of academic music, while their freeform / improv based structures & fact that each were written for the specific players begets another answer. At moments the sound like a more straight laced Jon Hassell while at others mixing in elements of classic electronic music of the past like Karl Stockhausen or a myriad contemporary noise/sound artists put in the room with a jazz band.

It's kinda hard to imagine calling albums from the mid-late 90's as classic but that's exactly the kind of praise Porter Ricks debut full-length opus calls for. Essentially defining the sound of a whole new breed of era in techno & dance music whose influence continues to this day. A compositional form that is minimalist by nature, aquatic by design, & versatile enough to be found in a club or bedroom setting simultaneously.
In retrospect it is also easy to view this album as a precursor to a lot of dubstep in it's use of dub-like techniques and sonic qualities. The deep bass sound while not wobbling to and fro is still a deep & moving force. With this release Type records is continuing their reputation as a forward thinking avant label even while digging a little into the past only to reveal a landmark release for contemporary music.

Pinch & Shackleton

Possibly one of the first forays around here into the more electronic and techno end of the musical spectrum. Pinch & Shackleton have been at it for a while now each helping define a new era of bass music with their individual compositions. Looking back to the origins of dubstep it is easy to point towards Pinch's debut Underwater Dancehall & Shackleton's former label Skull Disco as some of the finest examples of the genre.

This self-titled collection, their first collaborative outing, sees the pair operating at the same level of quality which initially propelled them into the music public's eye. Shackleton's unique This is not to say that it is a neutral meeting ground between the two. Contrary to such a thought, the seemingly simple feet of combining the hallmark aesthetics of the two artists is a rather difficult feet that is achieved with grace.
